Tom Buckland DHP  NLP  DHE MNCS (Accred) MNCH (Accred) MNRAH MBACP (Accred)

I’m Tom your fully qualified and experienced counsellor (Winchester University) I’ve been involved with counselling for over 20 years and have worked full-time for over 14 years.

I have studied in many areas and work as an Humanistic/Eclectic Counsellor. This means I don’t believe that one approach fits all. For some clients, I may work in a psycho-dynamic way, looking at their childhood, and the experiences and events that brought them to where they are now.

For another client, a CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) may be the best approach, for another, a client may just wish to examine the ‘here and now’.

The relationship between the counsellor and client is also important as it can sometimes help a person see issues they may not have recognised before.

I carry out continuing training and have trained in many areas such as Bereavement, Depression and Traumas, attend regular supervision and work to a code of Ethics demanded by the main Associations connected to counselling and therapy. I’m a full accredited member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (see which oversees counsellor and psychotherapist in this country and regulates a code of ethics and skill training etc.

I do have a great interest in how the mind works and the behaviours we carry out, and attend training, and read constantly to learn more to improve my craft and knowledge. In my personal life I’m married, have 5 children and 1 cat!  I enjoy walking, reading, writing and kayaking.

Dear Tom

May I first apologise for my delay in writing this letter, but since I’m enjoying my life so much more, I have found it difficult to find the time!

I wanted to personally thank you for all the time and patience in helping me deal with my problems. While I sometimes found the sessions difficult,. I began to enjoy them and knew that i was benefiting from our time together.....

.....I’m now living my life with confidence and happy to be me and for the first time feel in control of my life.

I grew up in a small village surrounded by countryside and it was here I developed my love of nature. I was also surrounded by Aunts, Uncles and Cousins and had sense of freedom in my childhood. At 20 years old, I formed my own business and into my twenties and early thirties worked hard into developing it. Unfortunately in this period I experienced some losses, and emotional upsets and I realised I was suffering with anxiety, depression and some forms of OCD.

It was at this time I started to become interested in psychology and entered into some therapy of my own. This helped me overcome many of my difficulties and I eventually went to train and qualify in different psychotherapies until I become a fully recognised and registered therapist and counsellor.

I’ve run my own practice since 2003 and have many thousands of client hours behind me, first in Basingstoke, then London and now in the New Forest area.

My Qualifications, training and experience are as follows; 2003 to current.
